The New Years Party That Never Ends

I dunno about you, but this weekend was really long. I mean, epically long. See, while I did have a really busy day at work on Thursday, that was SO LAST YEAR. That evening, I enjoyed ringing in 2010 at my usual Heretic destination. I kissed some boys, drank some cocktails, and more importantly danced my ass off.

It felt good. It felt like something I hadn’t done much of lately.

So I followed that up by going to The Body Shop. It was an after hours locale that really sometimes could be even better than the prime time hours at any club in Atlanta. The only problem is, the crowds weren’t consistent and after three years, on Jan 2, 2010, it closed.

That was Saturday. I was out on Saturday actually. But I decided to take it back to Jungle which is across the street from Heretic. Armed with two good friends, Kaze and his partner Tatsuo, I did what I’d done not two nights ago: I danced more. I could certainly stand to do more dancing and less of the cocktails as I now am at 160 pounds. It’s not a good number for me, I don’t think.

Speaking of numbers, I really ought to have gotten the one of the Korean guy that my friends introduced me to. We talked quite a bit, and danced a little too. But who gets numbers first it seems these days. You have to Facebook friend and all that right?

It’s all cool though. I think I made a good first impression and that’s a damn good thing to make on the first few days of a new year… or decade.

Sunday, I returned to work to put the supplies away. It’s become overwhelmingly apparent that I’m the only person capable of doing this at my job. Maybe I’m the only queer there with organizational skills, I dunno. I do know that lifting 40 pounds over my head is starting to hurt like a motherfucker.

But whatever, it’s fine. It really is. Monday, my regular off day has come and while I really thought I’d get myself a bit together and prepared for the first real work day of 2010, I instead get another jovial boost with a visit from Courtney. We end up watching MILK (review to come soon on the new Moviesign page to your left) and flirting with Juan. He’s this hot guy I’ve just realized works nights at the CVS on the corner. Delicious!

I look down at the clock/calender on my computer and already it’s January 5th, 2010. I’m starting the fifth day of the new year and all I’ve done is indulge myself in friends and flirting and fun. But you know what, I don’t feel guilty. I shouldn’t feel guilty. It’s the perfect way to start 2010. If you don’t celebrate the things you enjoy doing, while also re-incorporating what you used to do that you enjoyed, and topping it off doing something you haven’t quite done before, what good is any of it.

There’s no real need for me to be making New Year’s Resolutions or anything. I would have technically failed the “quit smoking” one last year. I didn’t end up quitting for good until March 23, 2009. (Nine Months, Twelve Days, 22 Hours and 21 Minutes ago, while extending my life expectancy 19 Days and 23 Hours, by avoiding the use of 5759 cigs that would have cost me $1,191.69.)

I’ve already got the desire to watch more movies and review them here. So I guess you can call that a resolution.

And there is “Later, Skater: On Tour” that will require editing (and later publishing.)

Kaze is trying to see if I can’t get into an Improv class which I think would be not only fun, but again is something I used to do (back in college) and would probably get me to enlarge my friend group… or improve my relationships… or make me some extra cash.

So just because tomorrow is my first day back to the mundane, I think my focus will be more on the first few days of the year, consider my focus for the rest of them, and wish myself a very happy 2010.
